Good point, the idea is to demonstrate to students the method and concepts of how you can find variations in your DNA that results in a physical change. In this case, how a single letter change of your DNA can determine what type of ear wax you have. The beauty of this experiment is that you can directly confirm the results by shoving your finger in your ear and seeing what ear wax you have. Normally this process would take too long and be too expensive for students in schools to do. The money would go towards a developing a method that would enable any student around the world to do! Putting it another way- would you rather hear a teacher give you a 2 hour lecture on how to detect variations in DNA or jump in and do a quirky experiment?
