I don’t get paid much as I am technically a student. I have a scholarship which gives me just over £13k a year and its enough to live on and have some fun.

But I also teach the undergraduate medical students twice a week and I get paid extra for that!

Hopefully I will get paid a lot more when I graduate!

Unlike Vicki, I am just finishing being a student and will begin to start my first job after being a student. With a PhD I will probably be getting about $65,000 p/a. That being said, that’s in Australian dollars so once you do the conversion to pounds- probably about $2000 a year (jj).

I’m on a fairly well paid postdoc and get about £30k before tax, including the ‘London weighting’.

As I’m an employee, I no longer get paid extra for teaching the undergraduates, so my tutorials are included in that.

I get paid around £26k, this is fairly typical for a new postdoctoral scientist outside London. Science doesn’t pay mega money, but it is enough to live comfortably on.
