When I find out an experiment worked! It can be hard to make experiments work as there are so many things to get right and its so frustrating when it fails.
I also like when I go for coffee in the morning with my friends. This part of the day is always good!
One part would have to be coffee o’clock- it sounds unproductive but oh, the contraire. Coffee o’clock for me is getting up to date on the latest discoveries in science. I subscribe to a lot of science blogs that compile all the new research that has been published. This includes new research into my field, melanoma. It’s important to keep up to date as you know exactly what is happening/ gives you great ideas for new experiments.
It might sound geeky, but one of my favourite things to do at work is computer programming. It is like solving lots of logic puzzles and (for me at least) can be a lot of fun.
If I’ve had a hard day in meetings or writing papers, then I try and make sure I get to do some programming at the end of the day to end on a high.
Oh yes indeed coffee does make the day go beautifully! I guess the best bit is when I can check things off my list – I know that it’s been a productive day and can enjoy my evening!
Definitely coffee 🙂
In my research group we have a cake rota, where we take turns to bake for each other, so today I ate some very nice cheese and chocolate cake sitting in the sunshine on the terrace above South Kensington.
