That it can be very boring day to day especially when your doing the same experiments over and over again and this can go on for months.

It can also be hard when an experiment wont work for months and you keep repeating it without success.

You need a good team of people to lean on when this happens – All the people I share an office with (Uma Fiona Abdi and Paula) keep me sane and help motivate me when I hate science.

Sometimes focusing can be the biggest problem (well at least for me). It’s very easy to get distracted with other things instead of doing what needs to be done. Often for me I should be writing, and sometimes its hard to sit down in front of a computer and write when you’re not in the mood. It’s amazing what a looming deadline does for your motivation!

The main things I do in my job are probably looking at my measurements and solving problems by writing computer code, and writing scientific papers.

Although I have to do it a lot, I still find writing the papers really hard. I much prefer to do the programming part of my job, it’s like solving puzzles.
