An ovarian cyst is a collection of fluid (blood, tissue fluid), surrounded by a very thin wall, that is in or on the ovary. It can be as small as a pea, or larger than an orange. Most of the time they are harmless and people don’t know they even have them. They are also really common – about 15% of women have one at some point in their lives.

Yeah… ovarian cysts can sometimes leave scars on the surface of the ovary but they form and heal in a very different way to ovulation, its the no scarring during ovulation that is key for me! So I’m not really researching cysts or other things that can happen to the ovary right now, but I might in the future!!! Also my research would help with the scars that cysts leave on the ovary!
The cysts go away naturally sometimes… the liquid in them (tissue fluid/blood) will drain back into the blood stream and recirculate round the body. Other times they don’t go away which is not really a problem but some large ones are removed by having an operation!
