I actually don’t work with any drugs at the moment. I primarily focus on the DNA/ genetics side of things, tyring to find the mutations that cause melanoma. Basically, this is the first step to drug discovery (find mutations- develop drugs, and I am doing the first part). However, I might be getting my hands on some of the new melanoma drugs soon to do some experiments on.

The lab next to us are working on a new drug that is for skin cancer (mostly not of melanoma origin). The active chemical is actually isolated from a plant in north queensland. I have seen some of the results of it, pretty amazing stuff. Basically they apply it as a topical cream and the cancer disappears within days- amazing! I think its in trials at the moment but it wouldn’t suprise me if it becomes availble within the next year or 2.
