• Question: What do you aim to achieve over the next five and then ten years in your research? :D

      At the end of 5 years- Hopefully I will be setting up my own laboratory (this is an ambitious goal though). Also would have liked to identified a bunch of new mutations in genes involved in melanoma that can be targeted with drugs. For 10 years- hopefully find a drug that works in those mutations I have found and begin to push it into clinical trials- getting a drug to market is a slow process that takes roughly 10-15 years.

      In 5 years time I will have graduated and be Dr Vicky (Can’t wait for that!!) and I will also have completed the business degree (Master of Business Administration) I am signed up to do.

      In 5 years I also hope that I will have discovered what stops the ovary from scarring each month when it releases an egg. This will tell us what kind of drug we need for other tissues which do scar.

      So in 10 years time I hope that we will have made this drug and that we will be in the process of testing it in clinical trials to make sure its safe for people to use. If everything goes really really well then maybe it will already have passed clinical trials and will be available for people to use. I also hope that with my business degree that I will have my own start-up company which will make these drugs or something similar.
