      YES!

      The monotremes are mammels which lay eggs. In fact they are the only mammals which lay eggs, all other mammal give birth to their young and include the platypus and four species of echidnas (or spiny anteaters).

      However scientists are debating if these species are true mammals because they lay eggs and because they are unsure of their evolutionary ancestors.

      I saw a duck billed platypus in the wild once in Tasmania, thought it was a rat at first, was very exciting!
