• Question: I was just wondering, why does my hair stand on end when I take off my hat on a cold, dry day?

Static electricity! Believe it or not, as you took your hat off you stripped charged off your hair and built up a voltage of tens of thousands of volts!
Because it’s cold and dry, there’s very little water in the air to take the electric charge away.

It also helps if you hair is very clean, as the grease otherwise sticks it together 🙂
