The research I am doing can help improves peoples lives- in particular, those who are diagnosed with melanoma (skin cancer). I am basically try to find mutations in genes that cause melanoma, if we can find them, we can use that info to develop new drugs in treating the cancer. I have already found a bunch of genes already, some of which we are now seeing if we can target new drugs against them.

In short yes. My research could help develope new drugs which would stop scars forming. This would be especially important for people who have operations or have repeated peritoneal (this is your abdominal) dialysis when their kidneys stop functioning properly. This can cause a lot of pain and complications and even cause some organs to fail. So if we cans stop scars forming it would be fantastic and it would help improve thousands of lives.
