      Because is the best way we have of finding out more about the world, and of truly understanding why things are the way they are. Without it, we’d still be living in caves, bashing each other on the head with rocks 🙂

      Because there are a lot of geeks in the world? (;

      One way to look at is that we are all better traveled, have better food and have better medical care than King Henry the VIII! Essentially you are living a much better life than one of the most famous kings of all time! This is all due to science.

      If we didn’t have scientists we would still be living in the medevil times!

      Cos science is heaps mad- nuff said.

      Seriously though, science and technology is tightly integrated. A lot of the cool stuff we have now (including the computer you used to ask this question) would probably not have been invented without the progress of science in society. Another way to think of it- if you were dropped off in the wild, with nothing but the clothes on your back, would you be able to survive*? I know I wouldn’t, I don’t think I would survive the day.

      * OK, you might be a scout or have wilderness training- in this case, what would you prefer? Live in the wild or comfortably in a house with music blasting, youtubing, facebooking while eating some reheated dinner from your microwave?
