Well, I like where I am actually but it would be lovely to experience living and working in a few different countries. I travelled and worked in Australia for a bit before going to university, that was a lot of fun and the weather is certainly a whole lot better! I have worked in Japan before, which I did like but doing research there was difficult because there is not enough work-life balance, which I definitely need!
I would love to work in Antarctica. Scientists work there year round and in the winter months (which are the summer months here in the UK) they are completely isolated from the world, with no ships or planes able to get to them, and they have to stay there for almost a year (most actually stay longer, normally 18-28 months!).
It is a very harsh environment, but also a beautiful one, and there is a lot of important, exciting science to be involved in.
I traveled round Asia for a while and always wanted to go and work out there in the future. Its not the best location for the science I’m doing but its getting better. I just loved the lifestyle, food, people and culture so much!
I’ve also spoken to a lab in Harvard about doing some work in collaboration with them and I think I might get to go work there for a bit next year. Harvard would be the best place in the world to work for my science. It would be awesome if this happened!!!!
Well hopefully for me I will be heading there next year- this is in regards to the lab that I want to work at (San Francisco). Unfortunately, the lab last year was based in Manhatten, New York- that would have been killer if they were still there. Then again, it’s probably a good thing, I would probably get too distracted from my work as there would be a lot of mischief I could get up to.
